The summer is finally here, and there is no better place to be this year than Birmingham. There is a host of events throughout August accounting for a range of different tastes. No matter what you’re looking for; Birmingham is THE place to be. Here are our top five events that you may want to experience in the second city this month.
Mailbox Summer Screenings
For those that already work around the city centre then they have probably experienced the summer screenings already. The Mailbox urban room has been transformed into a comfortable lounge area where some of the biggest events of the summer are broadcast for everybody to enjoy. It could be the best place to experience The Ashes once they get underway on the 1st August. Meanwhile, the upcoming Taste of the Mailbox takes place between the 1st and 3rd August, with multiple cooking demonstrations and food samples available. It is the best place to be for everyone in August.
Not Another Comic-Con- 3rd August
The city’s number one alternative convention once again takes place over the first weekend in August, and it is the perfect place for all fans of TV, comics and gaming. There are an array of special guests attending for fans to meet; including Gary Erskine, Johnny Bravo and Scooby-Doo and Shaggy. There are panels throughout the day and competitions. There is also a raffle that will be ongoing throughout the day; where all the funds raised will be donated to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. It is an unmissable event for all geeks out there.
This is the Greatest Show: Family Showing- 16th August
This unmissable event is inspired by the smash-hit film The Greatest Showman. The immersive experience is the perfect family day out where the show takes place around you while you enjoy a dining experience, unlike any other. There are elaborate costumes, acrobatics, and of course, all the famous sing-along songs from the film itself for viewers to enjoy. Doors open at 2 pm, and at the interval, there are classic American snacks such as hot dogs and candy floss served. It is a unique day and something that all the family can enjoy.
Muller Grand Prix Birmingham- 18th August
Rated as one of the best one-day indoor meetings of the season, the stars once again return to Birmingham for a day full of frantic action. Spectators can see all of the major stars in the world of athletics; with Sir Mo Farah, Laura Muir and Dina Asher-Smith all having competed in Birmingham over the past three years. Brum is a city that loves athletics, and the event will be unmissable. The event will be even more significant since the city are finalising their plans for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Birmingham.
Bingo Lingo Summer Special- 30th August
If you’re looking for a fun night out with friends, then look no further than Bingo Lingo in Digbeth. While here, you can enjoy an unwinding evening playing bingo and soaking in the atmosphere. Furthermore, there are tons of prizes to be won. Aside from bingo, there are also sing-offs and other unusual competitions. You should book up in advance in order to avoid disappointment, and remember to bring £1 for the Bingo book. Doors open at 6 pm, and the first game takes place at 8 pm.
