Lesser-Known Places To Visit In Wales

For many Brummies, we are always on the lookout on new places to visit to get away from the daily hustle and bustle of the city. But maybe there is no reason to travel too far, as there are a host of beautiful sights to see just up the road in Wales.

You can drive to Wales in less than two and a half hours, and while many people just go there to go to Cardiff; there is much more to see across the border than purely just the capital. Here are some of most interesting lesser-known places that you can see next time you go to Wales.

Gower is one of the most beautiful places in Wales, so it should come as little surprise that this cove is one of the hidden gems that you probably haven’t paid a visit to. There is a reason why it is hidden, and that is down to the fact that it is pretty hard to get to.

There are no lanes or roads to get to the location, and it is hidden at the bottom of a u-shaped cliff. If you’re looking for a long walk taking in beautiful sights, then this would be the ultimate place to settle down for a picnic. Start at Broughton beach and explore this beautiful scenery.

Most people have paid at least one visit to Stonehenge in their life. However, this little hidden gem is one of the locations that nobody has ever heard of. It is Wales’ answer to the English landmark, but it is like it’s like the brother that you never knew existed. Next time you visit Wales, this is a must-see, and you will be left wondering why this landmark isn’t widely regarded as one of the best in the country.

Roath Park in Cardiff may have been titled the best park in Wales in 2017, but this landscape at Belle Vue Park is a very close second. It has all the same attractions and is scenically beautiful. It is down the road from Cardiff, which means it shouldn’t be too hard to find, and it is the perfect location for a day out.

You can take your own picnic, or even take advantage of the wonderful tea rooms at the Parc Pantry. Belle Vue has everything that you would expect from a national institution, and since it opened in 1894, there is extensive history to be learned of here.

Llanddwyn Island

One of the lesser-known factors about Wales is the number of great options around the coasts. You may be interested in the Tenby coast or Caldey Island, but you should instead be setting your sights on Llanddwyn.

You can find this beautiful location near Anglesey, and it is named after the Welsh patron saint of lovers. The remains of St Dwynwen church is the main drawing point to the island, and it is stunning. It is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway. The easiest way to get there is on a path through Newborough Forest, before going along the beach.
