It was a night to remember for the cast and crew of Peaky Blinders on Tuesday evening as they took home two honours from the 25th National Television Awards. The critically acclaimed drama, which is based on a gang from Birmingham, won the Best Drama, while Cillian Murphy also picked up the award for Outstanding Drama Performance.
The success marks the second year running that the drama has won the drama accolade, but this year the stars were in full attendance to win the award. The show’s writer Steven Knight made the acceptance speech, where he thanked the fans for their part in making the show have a life of its own.
Peaky Blinders has been one of the biggest successes over recent years, and the show has gained a cult-like following. Last summer, the first-ever Peaky Blinders Festival was held in Birmingham, with the stars in attendance as well as live performances from Liam Gallagher among others. The second festival is expected to be announced before the summer, with tickets likely to sell out quickly. The festival could also overlap with the filming of the show, as it has been revealed that the sixth season is in pre-production at present with the script teased to fans on social media.
Murphy Takes Gong
Cillian Murphy also picked up an award at the NTAs, as he won the accolade for best drama performance. The category was stacked with quality actors, with Murphy fighting off competition from Jodie Comer and Idris Elba. Murphy wasn’t in attendance for the awards, but he did post a message to the fans thanking them for their support.
In the video, Murphy had his long hair, which meant that he didn’t look like Tommy Shelby. However, that is scheduled to change soon as filming for the next season could commence before the summer. Fans have already begun to speculate following a post online which featured a picture of the script of the first episode.
The opening episode will be titled ‘Black Day’, and will likely kick off from where season five finished. The cliffhanger saw fans on the edge of their seats as Tommy was on the verge of shooting himself in the head. It is unlikely that the leader of the gang will actually die, but Knight has teased that it won’t be an easy season for Tommy as he looks to find out who betrayed the Peaky Blinders.
It has also been reported that the upcoming season could also see a meeting between Oswald Mosley and Adolf Hitler. The teaser could centre around Mosley going to a wedding and meeting the former German dictator. Fans on social media have shown an interest in this happening, while Tom Hardy is also likely to return as Alfie Solomons is likely to be involved in Tommy’s plan backfiring.
Fans will have to wait a while longer before seeing the next season, but for now, we can speculate about what is to come when the Shelby clan return to our screens.
