It has been a long year for everybody, but there is a sense that normality could slowly be returning. For many, the sign that normal life has resumed will be when they are able to travel again. Travel restrictions imposed due to government guidance has meant that people haven’t been able to visit new countries for the past year.

However, recent announcements mean that this could be about to change. But, what are the cheapest getaways that Brummies can have from Birmingham airport?

Birmingham Airport Testing Centre

As part of travel restrictions, all passengers must now have a COVID-19 test before departing from the airport. Fortunately, there is a dedicated testing centre that all passengers can utilise before travelling to their final destination. Birmingham Airport has a number of testing facilities on hand to ensure that passengers can get that much-needed negative test before leaving.

There are two sites that have Express Tests, and these can be found at a walk-in set-up in the South Terminal, and the drive through set-up in Car Park 7. Passengers can also find PCR Testing and Antigen Testing facilities at the airport. All tests should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment.

Where To Fly?

Spain

Many Brits have been counting down the days until they can return to their favourite holiday spots in Spain. There are a number of great deals that customers can take advantage of from Birmingham Airport flying to the destination. The cheapest of which are £9 flights to Fuerteventura.

The majority of flights that can be found are direct to the destination, which could make for a holiday that is not only enjoyable, but easy on the wallet. Other Spanish destinations that customers can find from Birmingham Airport include Barcelona, Lanzarote and Malaga.

Malta

Malta has been welcoming British visitors since the middle of May, and passengers looking to visit the hotspot can take advantage of some cheap flights in July. Birmingham Airport currently has a number of direct flights to the location throughout the week, with passengers able to pay as little as £24 for return flights.

Visitors will be able to find a range of beautiful sights in the country, such as St. John’s Cathedral, Comino and the Azure Window. Best of all, it is a perfect location for those looking to get some much-needed sunshine. There are highs of 31 degrees in July and August, and low temperatures of just 22 degrees.

Portugal

Many British tourists raced to Portugal when it opened to visitors in the middle of May. However, the vast majority of the country has been put back onto the amber list, with one exception. Visitors can still head to Madeira, and there are return flights from Birmingham Airport in July.

Customers can expect to pay around £185 for return flights to the beautifully scenic destination. As well as having beautiful sandy beaches and hot weather, there are a number of tourist attractions that visitors can see when in Madeira. Among the most popular are Pico do Arieiro, Monte Palace and Cape Girao.
