One of the most popular shows in the United Kingdom is set to return in 2022, as series six of Peaky Blinders will air on the BBC. It will be a welcome sight for fans that have been waiting for over two years to see what lies in wait for the Brummie gang next. However, could there be some slight surprises when it comes to characters that could make a return following the shock revelation that Alfie Solomons was still alive?
Esme Shelby
It was rumoured before the start of the fifth series that Esme Shelby could be about to return to the family fold. However, it never materialised, which means that we have now gone two full seasons without seeing John’s wife. Esme hasn’t been seen in the show since telling Tommy and Arthur that she would be taking her children to live on the road away from the Shelby’s.
The animosity between Esme and Tommy reached new heights following the death of John, but given the situation that the gang find themselves in, she could return to help out her family.
Linda Shelby
Linda Shelby has had a troubled relationship with many of her family members. Tommy and Linda constantly clashed after she attempted to stop Arthur from working at night due to religious beliefs. However, the marriage eventually broke down by the fifth series, after Arthur attacked a man that Linda was getting closer to. That almost resulted in Linda shooting Arthur at Tommy’s mansion, but his life was saved by Aunt Polly, who shot Linda in the arm.
After nursing Linda back to full health, she left the family for good. However, it isn’t completely out of the realms of possibility that she returns for revenge on the family in the next series, and could have played a part in Tommy’s downfall at the conclusion of the fifth series.
Aberama Gold
It is a long shot, but some fan theories still believe that Aberama Gold could still be alive. Even for a show like Peaky Blinders that have brought Solomons and Arthur back from the dead in the past, it could be a stretch. Fans would have watched the conclusion of the fifth season in horror, as Gold was brutally stabbed to death by the Billy Boys.
It is very unlikely that he would have survived that brutal attack, and therefore it would be hard to see him making a comeback. Still, some fans will be hoping that he somehow managed to survive, and is now living in the wilderness with Polly, who will also be written out of the show following the death of Helen McCrory.
Polly Gray
That brings us to Aunt Polly. She has been a mainstay character throughout the show’s run on the BBC, but the heartbreaking death of McCrory earlier this year has raised doubts surrounding whether she filmed scenes for the sixth series. No word has been made about whether she was involved in any filming, which means fans can only speculate whether Polly will appear.
There is a hope that Polly appears as she continues to help Tommy overcome his troubles at the end of the last series, while some will be hoping that she gets her happy ending, as she finally moves away from Birmingham for good. Regardless, it is something that the drama is sure to mention very early on when it makes its return.
