Earth Day is an annual event held on 22nd April that celebrates the earth and encourages beneficial environmental practices. Hoar Cross Hall are celebrating Earth Day by honouring their development with plastic-free initiatives that allow them to withhold their zero-landfill venue. The hotel makes conscious efforts to remain environmentally friendly and has been given multiple rewards for their impressive sustainable practices.
This year’s theme for Earth Day is Planet vs Plastic. To keep in line with the theme Hoar Cross Hall will be changing some of their practices to eliminate the usage of plastic and general waste. Some of these practices include only offering plastic-free toiletries such as refillable bottles, providing filtered water opposed to bottled water, and removing all single use cups.
Hoar Cross Hall are able to stay sustainable with help from their trusty suppliers and partnerships. Supplier Voya provides the hotel with packaging that is completely recyclable or biodegradable which means less waste. Additionally, Elemis another one of their suppliers specifically for the spa are also making conscious efforts to become more environmentally friendly. Elemis are currently improving the eco-design of their product formulations and will be launching more sustainable packaging. Furthermore, with help from their partner The Waste Specialist the hotel is a zero-landfill property with all their products being cruelty-free and organic too.
If this wasn’t enough Hoar Cross Hall also have twenty beehives throughout all their properties. These produce fresh honey that is provided to guests and as the hives are onsite it excludes plastic packaging, benefits local ecosystems, and eliminates transportation emissions as no product has had to travel great distances.
On top of all this Hoar Cross Hall is a founding member of Sustainable Wellness. This is a non-for-profit organisation that assists spa businesses to incorporate long-term profitable and sustainable practices into their businesses.
From all this hard work the hotel was awarded a score of 390/500 from the FuturePlus framework which is a structure measuring climate, social, economic, and environmental impacts. This rating puts the hotel in the top 5% of all companies showing all their hard work really is paying off. Not only have they got superb ratings, but they also have a series of rewards including a Global Accreditation from The Sustainable Spa Association and a Silver Award from the Green Tourism.
Hoar Cross Hall have set more future goals to help them remain sustainable and are now encouraging other to do the same. If this has inspired you to become greener then here are some of the top ways you can be more sustainable at home:
