Top 5 British Festive Foods!

It wouldn’t be Christmas in the U.K. without these go-to items, have you got these 5 goodies stocked for this year?

Ahh… Christmas, we all have our good and bad to take from it, and when it comes to food there is always room for debate. Some things however are undebateable. These Christmas culinary delights are undisputed champions, whether enjoyed at the Christmas dinner table or while playing online slot games, waiting for the kettle to boil. While some parts of the world enjoy barbeque and others enjoy fish at Christmas time, in the U.K. we have our very own unique quirks that come out at the end of the year. And don’t worry, these are all affordable for every family this Christmas!

And in no particular order:

Number One: Mince Pies

While I have never tried one with minced meat, the run-of-the-mill variety from Asda will suffice. These traditional delights originate from the Holy Land after the Crusades, so consider the mince pie a tasty relic in British households for centuries!

Number Two: Quality Street

Now I know the Celebration Box by Mars is a favourite for some, but when we’re talking British how could anyone miss out on Quality Street? If we’re honest it’s not quite the superior tasting confectionary of the two. Still, there’s something so traditional about the purple box in your peripherals whilst you squabble over the last green triangle.

 Number Three: Pigs in Blankets

A vegan option is applicable also, the Christmas dinner would seem naked and void of character if not for the little pork creation. Whilst its name may seem crude, do not serve your British friends a Christmas dinner without them.

Number Four: Bailey’s Irish Cream

Nothing quite says post-Christmas dinner beverage than… Irish Cream! Although, more often than not Bailey’s fanatics seem to creep out of the mistletoe this time of year, you still must not forget your bottle for when you have your British friends or relatives over. This drink gets a pass on the list.

Number Five: Coca-Cola

“The Holidays are coming!” Oh yes, when that advert rings out you know everyone in the U.K. gets a shiver in their festive bones. And after all, Santa himself stole this iconic American soft drink brand’s colours (or so they claim). Besides, there’s only so much Bailey’s one Brit could consume.

The main thing to remember is that the lovely foods and drinks we cherish at this time of year are nothing without the company, what use is a treat if it cannot be shared or enjoyed with a group of loved ones? So save that green triangle for your Uncle or your Neice, and savour that last sip of Bailey’s as the family all fall asleep playing Monopoly. For this list is proof that you don’t have to bust the bank to be known as this years Christmas party legend, sometimes it is the most simple things in life that make it all the more memorable.
