Aston Villa said to be close to signing latest Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan

Aston Villa are reportedly on the brink of signing one of football’s rising stars, Sverre Nypan. The 18-year-old midfielder from Rosenborg has been a target for several top-tier clubs, including Arsenal and Girona. However, it seems that fans of free streaming may be watching him ply his trade at Villa Park come next season.

Nypan has attracted attention from several clubs during the winter market. Despite holding talks with Arsenal and Girona, he decided to reassess his options ahead of the summer transfer window. Now, there is growing optimism at Aston Villa that they might secure this coveted talent, the latest to emerge from Norway in recent years.

However, while enthusiasm about a move to Villa Park appears high on Nypan’s end, personal terms and a fee with Rosenborg are yet to be agreed upon. Therefore, while promising, the deal remains in progress.

Sverre Nypan stands out as another exceptional prospect from Norway, following in the footsteps of Alexander Sorloth, Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard and Antonio Nusa.

Born in Trondheim and having played academy football locally for Nardo FK before joining Rosenborg in 2022 – Trondheim’s biggest club – he quickly made an impression. By age 14, he was training with their first team and by 15, he was an under-21 international for Norway.

While not quite young enough to displace Odegaard as the youngest player in Norwegian Eliteserien history (Odegaard debuted at age 15 years and 118 days), his progress is no less impressive.

With eight goals during the 2024 season, along with six assists leading his team, it didn’t take long for him to capture national interest.

Direct comparisons between Odegaard and Nypan are tempting but not entirely accurate due to their different playing styles. While both are undoubtedly talented, Nypan is more of an all-round midfielder. He can pass, carry, create and score goals but tends to occupy more areas of the pitch.

Nypan’s style leans towards a No 8 role rather than a No 10. He plays with fewer flourishes but covers more ground on the field.

Securing Nypan’s services could prove to be a significant coup for Aston Villa, given the competition they are facing for his signature. His arrival would not only bolster their midfield options but also add another exciting young talent to their ranks.

While nothing is finalised yet, fans of Aston Villa will be eagerly awaiting news about this potential new addition. If successful, it could mark an exciting new chapter in both Nypan’s career and Aston Villa’s future.
