Evans Advances In China

Solihull born Dan Evans could be about to overtake Kyle Edmund and become the number one seeded British player. The update comes after Evans performed excellently at the ATP 200 event at the Chengdu Open.

Evans defied the odds to overcome hometown hero Yan Bai in three sets. He eventually went through 6-3, 4-6, 7-6. The performance drew admiration from the Brits back at home, and the talk surrounding him overtaking Edmund is the product of Evans working so hard following a suspension in 2017.

Things could be about to improve further for the player born in the West Midlands, as he could be about to join forces once more with coach Mark Hilton. The coach had previously worked with Evans but joined the Edmund team following the suspension. However, the BBC have reported that he could be set to align with Evans once again after being dispensed before the Asian competition by Edmund.

Evans will continue his quest for the Chengdu Open in the round of 16 stage tomorrow against fourth-seed Grigor Dimitrov.
