Trailblazing ‘Miss Macaroon’ Celebrates Tenth Anniversary

A lot has changed over the past ten years around the Second City, but one of the constants during that time has been the groundbreaking work that has been done by Miss Macaroon. The company was set up in 2011 with one team member, and just £500 in the bank, but it has since become one of the most recognisable companies in the social enterprise sector.

Miss Macaroon will hold a special place in the hearts of thousands of Brummies, and for good reason. It has been one of the most important companies to be established, as it has played a profound role in the lives of unemployed young people around the city, and they have stayed true to their promise of baking a ‘brighter future’.

Building A Brighter Future

Miss Macaroon has certainly come a long way from the small kitchen that it started in ten years ago, as Rosie Ginday MBE’s determination to help young people to achieve their dreams has paid off. Ginday’s experience of working at Michelin starred ‘Purnell’s’ held her in good stead, but it was her commitment to making real social change that has made Miss Macaroon the trailblazer that it is today.

She has changed the lives of thousands around the second city, as the company has pledged 100% of its profits to help unemployed young people gain skills. Speaking of the social mission that has shaped Miss Macaroon, she said: “Through our supportive and collaborative approach to all the young people on Miss Macaroon’s courses, young people – often care leavers experiencing difficulties – benefit from pastry chef training, work experience, confidence building and on-going mentoring.”

Her comments are certainly backed up with the stats, as 100% of the MacsMad trainees have felt that the course has had a positive effect on their life. The course has also led to 86% of trainees feeling better in the workplace, and 45% of trainees being back in full-time work or education. During the course, the skills that were learned are still put in to practice every day, with 86% claiming that they use the practical skills learned and 100% of trainees continuing to use the theoretical skills that were picked up during the course.

Unique Pastry Treats

Aside from the excellent MacsMAD training course, Miss Macaroon has been revered for its Pantone matching process. There is a macaroon for everyone regardless of dietary requirements, as the company excels at offering halal and vegan-friendly gift boxes for all occasions, including birthdays and anniversaries.

Speaking of the success that Miss Macaroon has achieved over the past ten years, Ginday said: “My personal reward is that, as well as seeing young people flourish in what is a highly competitive industry and work confidently and diligently in the pressurised environment of a professional kitchen, I know my customers are also investing in these young people with the purchase of our products, and so are being rewarded on every level from their choice of macaroon.”

The dedication and commitment from the whole team at Miss Macaroon ensures that the future continues to look bright for trainees for years to come. To learn more about the course and products available, head to missmacaroon.co.uk
