The internet is a wonderful place for finding quirky stories, and we felt compelled to introduce this guy to our readers after hearing his distinct accent.
We all have that one friend that believes you can walk everywhere no matter how far the distance, and it would appear that Tom Davies is that particular friend in his circle. However, he has taken it a step further than just saying to his friends that they can walk to a pub ten miles away, as he has walked across an entire country going in no other direction except straight.
His hypothesis was straightforward; he believed that you could walk from one end of a country to the opposite in a straight line. After doing extensive research, he settled on walking across Wales due to its mix of urban and wilderness settings.
Davies planned out a route that was just under 30 miles long. The plan was simple in essence, as he would walk from the English border for four days to Penmaenpool without breaking from his straight line. He did mention before beginning that he would allow a little leeway in order to tend to an injury, but this wasn’t the case when it came to sleeping, as he rested his head in the woodlands of the Welsh countryside.
Although the concept was simple, there were still multiple challenges that came with not being able to change direction. This included crossing farmland, rivers and mountains. Not to mention that the weather in Welsh is far from settled throughout the year and the hike was cold. Nevertheless, he was able to navigate the water routes as he came prepared with an inflatable kayak.
We aren’t going to give away spoilers as you can follow the entire story on his YouTube page where he goes under the name of GeoWizard. To save you the hassle from searching, we have included the first part of his journey below.
Davies split the adventure into five parts, with each episode lasting just over 30 minutes. Each episode is humorous as you would expect from somebody from the West Midlands that has nobody except himself to entertain himself. The best parts are when he attempts different accents, his Yorkshire was pretty good, but the Indian accent may need a little bit of work.
Who knows, he may have excelled with his accents by the time he undertakes his next adventure. WeLoveBrum will be keeping a close eye on him, and we hope that it isn’t too long until we can see Davies dive into a new challenge.
