Choose Your University 

Once you decide to go to university in Birmingham, your next task is to decide which university to study at. Luckily, Birmingham has five great choices, including the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University and Aston University, meaning you have lots of great options. 

The University of Birmingham is a Russell Group university, as well as a public research university, and is located in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham. Birmingham City University was originally called the Birmingham College of Art, and is known for its courses in art and design. Aston University is located in the centre of Birmingham and is a public research university renowned for its technical courses. 

Essentials to Pack 

Heading to university can be daunting, so don’t get caught out with forgetting the essentials. From university supplies to those home comforts, we’ve got you covered.

  1. University supplies – laptop, notepad, pens and reading list.

  1. Cadbury’s World. Who doesn’t love chocolate? Get your flat mates together and enjoy a day socialising with a difference. 
  2. Black Country Living Museum. Step back in history with the Black Country Living open air museum focusing on the 1850s-1950s. Discover mines, trams, canals and more. 
  3. The Botanical Gardens. They’re great for a walk, and you can also sit and enjoy a coffee in the grounds and take in the impressive sites. Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens house exotic tropical, subtropical, Mediterranean and arid houses, and there are exhibitions such as Jurassic encounters and lantern shows. 
  4. Sea Life Centre. Birmingham’s Sea Life Centre makes for a great day out with a difference. Discover the sea life and spend your day wandering around the various tanks and exhibitions. 
  5. Take a walking tour. Birmingham is known for its walking tours. There’s no better way to discover the city you’re going to be living in and the history around it.
