The hit kids game show Blue Badge Bunch is coming to MAC Birmingham Sunday 4th June, 2pm, as part of its UK tour this year.
Hosted by disabled comedian Benny Shakes, who has cerebral palsy, and autistic stand-up comedian Mark Nicholas, Blue Badge Bunch sees audiences and guests take part in hilarious, interactive activities that show what it’s like to have different disabilities.
From working out sentences from a speaking aid, to drawing with your feet, to everyone’s favourite poking game, where audiences get to poke hosts with huge, foam fingers as they attempt to butter a piece of bread one-handed – the show offers an open environment to learn about disability.
The show has so far received rave reviews, chosen by major theatre critic Lyn Gardner as one of her VAULT Festival highlights, as well as being shortlisted for the Neurodiverse Representation Award and the Midlands Comedy Awards’ Best Show.
Host Benny Shakes said:
“With Blue Badge Bunch I wanted to create a comedy show that could make the next generation think differently about disability. It’s a fun game show about something so important that offers audiences a chance to see how disabled people live each day, and we’ve had an amazing response from audiences across the country.
“It feels like this show is more important now than ever. There are still so many misconceptions around disability; in recent months I’ve experienced abuse about the way I speak, or people assuming that I’m less intelligent than them because I speak differently to them. Blue Badge Bunch gives us the opportunity to educate audiences about disabilities like Cerebral Palsy and Autism in an accessible, interactive way and hopefully change attitudes.”
