Now that the summer holidays are here it’s time to start planning what activities you will get up to as a family. This guide will show you some of the best places for a family day out right here in Birmingham. Whether you want to work those brains in an escape room or have a relaxed stroll with some of your favourite animals Birmingham has some super enjoyable activities that adults and kids will love.  

The Park Playground  

The Park is a great experience for the whole family if you’re looking to escape the city and travel to another world. The Park is a fully immersive VR experience where you can adventure into different worlds and be blown away by what you discover. By using the power of teamwork, you will be able to make the impossible possible and complete the journey of a lifetime as a group.  

There are lots of different games to choose from including Mission Planet X, The Snitch, and Don’t Scream. Another game option is Mask Of The Pharaoh where you will be located in a historical museum and have to help the professor release the curse of the pharaohs mask, you will have to free the professor by solving puzzles and solving the mystery.  

Players must be a minimum age of 7 years with a couple of the adventures having a slightly higher age restriction. Each session can have up to 24 players and prices start from £35.99 per person for 1 hour of game play. The venue is open from 10 am until 10 pm every day and is located right in Brindley Place the perfect spot if you want to finish your day out off with a meal in one of their many restaurants.

Sea Life  

A perfect adventure for any animal loving family is Sea Life. The centre is filled with lots of exciting sea animals just waiting to be discovered. Sea Life gives you the chance to see how these animals would behave in their natural habitat from the comfort of dry land.  

Sea Life is home to one of the UK’s only 360° tunnels where you can walk through and witness their animals swimming above and below you. The tunnel is home to some of the greatest sea animals such as turtles, sharks, rays, and lots of tropical fish.  

There are lots of other sea creatures to discover such as their new visitors from Alaska the sea otters which are great fun to watch. You can also go on an icy adventure and visit the penguins who are one of our personal favourite animals to watch play around.  

The centre is suitable for all ages so makes for a great family day out where no one is left out. Tickets can be booked online and when booking in advance you can get a great deal for the whole family.

Cadbury World  

Why not take a trip and enter Cadbury’s chocolatey world to find out the secrets behind their famous sweet treat. There are lots of fun and interactive activities to do that all the family can participate in and enjoy. Some of the spectacular ventures to take part in include their 4D cinema, a trip on the Cadbury ride, and find out how to make their world famous chocolate.  

You can also take a trip down memory lane and learn about the history of the Cadbury brand. Go back in time and look at all their past advertising, see thousands of Cadbury memorabilia, and travel to Bull Street where the brand began. After you know the Cadbury story you can grab some refreshments at their café and grab a souvenir from their gift shop to remember your visit by.

Thinktank  

Now the summer holidays are here it’s time to start planning what to get up to with the kids while they are off school. Thinktank is an award winning science museum ideal for some great fun with the kids to keep them occupied all day. There are multiple activities to do on your day out that the whole family can get stuck into.  

The top 3 adventures include their science garden, mini Brum, and the planetarium. The planetarium will take you into outer space where you can develop your knowledge on astronomy and see the nights sky in all its glory. Mini Brum showcases Birmingham in a miniature form, where you can visit attractions such as cafés, salons, and racetracks that are inspired by Birmingham’s Commonwealth Games. Finally, the science garden where you will learn about mechanisms and mobilisation where you can take part in lots of workshops and watch shows.  

Thinktank is located right in city centre which is just a small walk from grand central making it great for anyone travelling into the city. The centre is open from 10 am to 5 pm every day and tickets can be purchased online for the whole family.

Treetop Adventure Golf  

If you’re in the mood for a bit of crazy golf, then Treetop Adventure is the perfect place for a family friendly game. Featuring 2 separate 18 hole courses you’ll get hours of fun discovering all the cool quirks of this adventure golf.  

The 2 courses have lots of exiting aspects such as glow in the dark elements, talking holes, and amazing sound effects. The courses are great fun and are highly interactive making it enjoyable for all ages even adults. Plus, you will get to play on an additional 19th hole, where you will be able to putt for some special prizes such as a free golfing pass.  

At the end of your visit, you should definitely grab a photo in Treetop’s free photobooth to remember your fun day out. If you’re feeling a little hungry you can grab a bite to eat at the Amazon café which is inside the golfing venue and sells some great food and has a good selection of drinks.

Wildlife Conservation Park 

Home to a unique collection of animals the Wildlife Conservation Park is a wonderful zoo located just a stone throw from city centre. Some of the fantastic animals at the zoo include monkeys, tortoises, otters, and meerkats which make for some great entertainment watching in their natural habitat.  

The Conservation Park is home to some of the most endangered animals and the zoo helps to breed these animals to help prevent extinction. They also work alongside other zoos to help maintain a healthy population of these endangered animals and to raise awareness of this issue.  

This zoo is located close to Cannon Hill Park which is another perfect family spot where you can stop off at after your zoo experience. The park is a good place for a picnic and some other family fun activities to enjoy on your day out together.  

You can book your trip online or just turn up on the day and pay at the desk. There are some great ticket deals such as the family pass which includes 2 adults and 3 children for just £25 for the whole day. Some other good deals include student discounts and under 3’s going in free. During the summer months the zoo is open from 10 am to 5 pm every day so you can spend all day taking a stroll around with your favourite animals.

Teenie Weenies 

Something that the little kids will enjoy is the soft play at Teenie Weenies. While the whole family may not be able to enjoy this activity, there is a great on site café offering premium hot drinks which you can enjoy while the kids run free on the climbing frames.  

Juniors and toddlers have a great space to play here and some of their features include a ball pit, zip wire, and ropes. Teenie Weenies aim to offer a safe and enjoyable experience for kids that they will love to play on all day long. Tickets start from just £1 ang go up to £7 during the school holidays due to demand of the soft play centre.

Escape Room Live 

Escape Room Live offers an immersive escape room experience that the whole family can get involved in. With 8 different game themes to choose from there will be something you all can discover and enjoy. The games are a great way to create memories and bring the family close together as you work together as a team to solve puzzles and figure out the secrets of the escape room.    

Some of the themes include Dr Watsons Office, Time Machine, and The Lab. Different themes have different age restrictions but generally start from age 8 plus and can have 2-6 players per game.
