The independent restaurant Riverine Rabbit have now started taking bookings for their new Stirchley based location starting from the 5th January 2024. This restaurant combines its South African roots with new and exciting flavours from seasonal British produce. Dishes are made with ingredients from local farmers that have sustainability in mind while still having a great taste.
The restaurant was created by Ash and sister Mandy in Cape Town. Ash began her culinary journey at the young age of 16 when she worked as a prep chef in her local restaurant and then worked her way up to work alongside Luke Dale-Roberts of The Test Kitchen named one of the best restaurants in South Africa. The name for this restaurant was inspired by Karoo Desert where the riverine rabbit lives and links to the restaurants endeavour to support sustainable practices.
Before creating the menu Ash took her time to get to know the local farmers and produce to ensure that the resturant was sourcing their ingredients sustainably. The menu created is made up of 16 small plate dishes that were taken from the series of pop-ups done by Riverine Rabbit over the summer. Customers can order as many or as few dishes as they like from the menu and get the full Riverine Rabbit experience. Dishes will be varied by have a heavy focus on Wild Game, Seafood, and have some great tasting veggie options too. Alongside the food there will be some great drinks including a wine list that is predominantly South African.
