The WWE Hall of Fame is the highest honour that superstars that have competed for the company aspire to achieve. However, it is also an honour that celebrities can also achieve, as the professional wrestling company have a celebrity wing of the Hall of Fame. Among the celebrities that have been honoured the past include heavyweight great Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali.
The most recent Hall of Fame induction, which took place a couple of weeks ago before WrestleMania saw a Birmingham legend inducted into the prestigious Hall of fame, as Ozzy Osbourne received the honour.
Osbourne’s WWE Appearances
Osbourne has been a common sight for WWE fans throughout the star’s career. He made his first appearance on WWE television back in 1986, as he appeared ringside during a match involving the British Bulldogs’. The heavy metal star posted a throwback picture of that first involvement in WWE a couple of weeks ago to mark his induction into the celebrity wing of the Hall of Fame. In the picture, Osbourne could be seen looking on as former star Captain Lou Albano climbed to the top rope.
That wasn’t the only time that Osbourne has appeared on WWE television. Most recently, he was on both Raw and SmackDown in the late 2000s. He performed one of his new singles during an episode of Smackdown in 2007, before he returned two years later to host an episode of Raw. Osbourne has always had a connection with the WWE fans throughout his career, and that was something that he alluded to in his induction speech a couple of weeks ago. He thanked the fans for their continued support, and for welcoming him onto the WWE shows.
Two Celebrity Entrants
Osbroune was unfortunately not able to attend WrestleMania this year, where he would have been greeted by the fans. Instead, he needed to record a special speech, which was aired during the WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony that was broadcast on the WWE Network. Osbourne wasn’t the only star that was inducted into the celebrity wing of the Hall of Fame during the evening, as William Shatner also was inducted. Shatner has been involved in the WWE product for the past 25 years, as he first appeared when he guest hosted in 1995.
During that appearance, he shared the ring with Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler during a King’s Court segment. He most recently appeared on Raw in 2010, as he once again shared the ring with Lawler. Shatner has also been involved in the company behind the scenes, as he was the narrator for the WWE Network’s exclusive drama called ‘Breaking Ground’. Both stars will likely get a proper opportunity to say thank you to the fans later in the year. The main section of the Hall of Fame is saved for the professionals, and among the main inductees, this year were Rob Van Dam, Kane and the nWo.
