There is no better way to celebrate the start of the British summer than partaking in the celebrations of English Tourism Week. Visitors can experience everything that makes Birmingham unique.

With a worth of 106 billion, the tourism industry in England hosts one of the most diverse service industries in the world. This year’s celebrations are between the 30th March- 7th April.

Who doesn’t like chocolate? Cadbury World is the home of chocolate in the UK, and there’s great fun to be had by all, no matter your age. Here you can discover how your favourite chocolate bars are created and packaged, while also learning about the history of the company. You can even sit back and relax in their state of the art 4D cinema that shows regular screenings of a short movie featuring all children’s favourite Cadbury characters, such as Freddo. The factory also boasts the biggest Cadbury’s shop in the world. So, why not pay a visit to Bourneville and have a great family day out and also fill your cupboards with tasty treats.

Cosford RAF Museum

The Royal Air Force Museum in Cosford is located in Shropshire and offers a fun and exciting day out for the whole family. Situated next to an active airfield, this is the only place in the Midlands where you can get up close and personal to breath-taking aircrafts’ at no cost. Over 70 planes of international importance are located here, including the world’s oldest Spitfire and the Lincoln Bomber. There is also a flight simulator, which makes you question why you never thought about becoming a pilot. In 2007, the National Cold War Exhibition was opened, telling the story of the cold war innovatively. A free and fun day awaits you at the RAF museum.

The Cotswolds Distillery- The Cotswold Distillery is the first and only full-scale distillery within the Cotswolds area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ANB.) Set in five acres of rolling Warwickshire countryside and housed in two Cotswolds stone buildings. Their focus is on premium small batch spirits including Cotswolds single malt whisky and dry gin as well as some small-batch liqueurs and brandies. They offer tours and tastings seven days a week, opening at 11:00 and closing at 14:00. The tours must be booked in advance and can be reserved through their website.

Shakespeare’s Birthplace

William Shakespeare was born in this house and lived here until he was old enough to marry. For millions of Shakespeare enthusiasts worldwide, this house is a shrine. Here you can discover the world that shaped the man and find out what other famous writers such as Charles Dickens thought when they visited here. House tickets can be brought online and are valid for a full 12 months so you can visit as often as you like. Family fun can be had by all as children under 5 can attend for free. With Shakespeare’s 400th birthday being celebrated in April, there has never been a better time to pay a visit.

Stratford-Upon-Avon Butterfly Farm

Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm was opened in 1985. It is housed in a large greenhouse, landscaped with waterfalls, ponds and a wide variety of tropical plants. Hundreds of exotic butterflies from all over the world fly within this area. Visitors can freely walk throughout and observe behaviour and life-cycles at first hand. Many of the species on display are bred on this farm. The whole concept of this exhibition is to show live insects behaving as natural as possible. This is the largest and most comprehensive attraction of its type in Europe.

ThinkTank

ThinkTank Birmingham offers a fun day out for everybody, exploring and understanding science in an entertaining way. From steam engines and talking robots on display, ThinkTank boasts over 200 hands-on exhibits. Housed inside the impressive Millennium Pont building, you will find four floors of practical activities, and historical collections that will inspire you and show that science is all around us. There is also a café located inside the building, but there are also outside areas which are perfect for picnics when the weather is permitting.
