Birmingham’s German Market Returns In 2021!

The news that all Brummies have been waiting for has been made official- the German Market will be making its long-awaited return to the second city. It was untypically quiet around Victoria Square and New Street last year, as the event was cancelled due to COVID-19 regulations last year. However, there were still fears that this year’s event could have been in danger. Fear not, though, as the German Market will be taking over Birmingham from Thursday, 4th November.

When Will The German Market Be Open?

For many, no Christmas is complete without a day or evening out at the German market. There was something missing last year, as the streets were empty with no locals sipping on their steins or eating the spicy sausages. However, Brummies will not need to wait much longer for the opening of the German Market this year, as organisers have revealed that the Frankfurt German Christmas Market will be open to visitors from Thursday, 4th November.

The 21st German Market in Germany will continue on the streets of Birmingham right up until Christmas Day, with the market closing its doors on Thursday, 23rd December. Organisers have also announced the opening times of the market for the coming year, as it will be open between 10 am and 9 pm every day. However, it was also revealed that there would be slightly fewer stalls for the event in 2021, as the works around Victoria Square have made an impact. That can only mean one thing- time to start getting your jackets ready for the Christmas spectacle.

Will The Ice Rink Return In 2021?

There will be a very Christmassy feel around the second city this year, as the ice rink that is found in Centenary Square will also be making its grand return. The rink, along with the big wheel, will also be open from Thursday, 4th November, and will remain in the second city until Sunday, 9th January.

Customers will be able to get on the ice and take a ride on the wheel every day during this period between 10 am and 10 pm, with the only exception being Christmas Day, when the amusements will be closed to the public. To avoid any disappointment, tickets for the ice rink can be booked in advance at iceskatebirmingham.co.uk.

Why Should You Visit The German Market?

For many, Christmas only means one thing in Birmingham, and that is paying a visit to the German Market. It is one of the best experiences in the United Kingdom for those of us that love Christmas, as the market in Birmingham is the biggest authentic market outside of Austria and Germany.

Last year’s cancellation was the first time that Brummies had been forced to miss out on the festivities in its history, and organisers have promised the safest and most exciting return of the market this year. It isn’t just Brummies that love the market either, as hundreds of thousands of people travel to the city to experience the unique offerings that can be found. It is often just the start of the night for those that visit, with many often looking to find the best cocktail bars in Birmingham to continue their celebrations over the Christmas period.
