The Commonwealth Games hosted one of the competition’s more memorable nights on Day 6, as there was no shortage of drama across Birmingham. At Alexander Stadium, there was British joy, with Scottish athlete Eilish McColgan emulating her mother’s success from 1986 and 1990 by winning the 10,000m gold medal.

Meanwhile, there was also redemption for England’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson, as she claimed the gold medal in the heptathlon. But, what main action will be taking place on Day 7 of the games?

First Diving Medals Up For Grabs

The Sandwell Aquatics Centre has already housed some memorable moments at the Commonwealth Games this summer, including Adam Peaty’s memorable win in the 50m breaststroke. However, the attention turns to the diving from day seven, with 12 medals up for grabs between now and the Closing Ceremony next Monday.

There will be British hopes in the 1m springboard, as Jack Laugher looks to successfully defend the title that he won on the Gold Coast four years ago. He could face competition in the event from James Heaty. Meanwhile, the women’s 10m platform finals also take place on Thursday evening, with teenager Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix among the main hopes for the home nations.

Five Golds Up For Grabs In Athletics

It looks set to be a quieter night at Alexander Stadium, with only five gold medals up for grabs on Thursday. The headline event looks set to be the men’s 110m hurdles, where England’s Andrew Pozzi and Josh Zeller could both be leading contenders for medals.

Zeller will be looking to use his momentum from the World Championships last month, where he finished fifth. Other events with gold medals on the line at Alexander Stadium include the Men’s long jump, T11/12 100m, and discus. Meanwhile, the female superstars will also be competing for golds in the F42-44 and F61-64 discus.

Powerlifting Finals

There will also be powerlifting finals to enjoy on Thursday, with Scotland’s Micky Yule looking to win the top prize on his third attempt. On his previous two appearances at the games, he has finished in fourth place. England’s hopes will be resting on Mark Swan, who finished fourth at the world championships in December, and he will be bidding for gold in the men’s lightweight division.

What Other Events Are On Day 7?

There is a busy schedule of events elsewhere around the city, including at Edgbaston. The main game on Thursday comes at England and New Zealand clash, with a place at the top of Group B hanging in the balance. Elsewhere, the first rhythmic gymnastic medal of the Commonwealth Games this summer will be decided at around 9:30 p.m, with Cyprus looking to defend the title that they won in 2018.

There has already been a shock in the netball on day seven, as Australia was beaten by Jamaica. England will be looking to avoid a similar shock this evening, as they take on New Zealand to determine the semi-final draw over the weekend.
