Sometimes you just want to go out and experience something fancier than your typical weekend. Dive bars are great from time to time, but every now and again, you crave something a bit more classier. That could mean unwinding with some high-end gin or having a glass of prosecco with a wonderful sight of the Birmingham skyline. If you’re struggling to find something more sophisticated, then this is the list to find the answers to all your prayers.

Alchemist

This bar is a busy spot for nightlife during the weekends and for a good reason. The location is perfect, as it is a stone’s throw of Pigeon Park. The drinks selection is never-ending, and there is something for every taste. You will be able to spend the entire evening here, as you will be dying to get through all the unique cocktails that are at your disposal. The theatrical theme is a huge hit with visitors, and you will also need to check out The Lab, which is located beneath the main bar. Undoubtedly one of the best bars in the second city.

Fumo

One bar that screams sophisticated is Fumo. It is part of the award-winning San Carlo Group and can be found on Waterloo Street. Everything about the bar is glamorous, and that includes the attire of the waiters and waitresses, who look like they would be more fitting behind a bar in Peaky Blinders. There are a variety of tapas options should you want to get a bite to eat. It is the perfect place to unwind with a couple of proseccos, while there is also a number of intriguing cocktail selections available.

If you’re a fan of gin, then the Gin Vault is the only place to bet. The cute little bar on the canal is one of the best-kept secrets in the second city. It is a little more on the expensive side, but it is well worth the price as there is an extensive number of gins available in the menu. The bar staff are friendly and happy to help with any questions surrounding the drinks that you may have, and there is often live music on over the weekends. It is the perfect end destination for your romantic night out in town.

Henman & Cooper

If you’re looking for a sophisticated drink after work in the business district, then the Henman & Cooper is the only place to be. The inside is brilliant, but the upstairs ensures that it makes this list for sophisticated bars in the second city. The decking is a great touch, and the outdoor space is wonderful for workmates drinking in the city after having a productive day in the office. There is an extensive number of cocktail options, and the food is also great too. It is still getting more and more popular, as the summer approaches.
