Birmingham is home to lots of fun and entertaining activities but one of the greatest has to be their escape rooms. With lots dotted around the city here are just a couple of our favourite ones to visit while you are in Birmingham. These activities are perfect for all kinds of occasions whether it be for date night, birthdays, work dos, with family, or with a group of friends, they are great fun and challenging entertainment.

Escape Live Birmingham

Escape Live Birmingham is an award-winning escape room known as Birmingham’s number one escape venue. By working as part of a team you will have to crack codes and solve puzzles to escape the room and be victorious. With lots of different themes to choose from you will be immersed into another world as you delve deep into the story lines of your chosen escape room.

Most games last 60 minutes and have different difficulty levels to choose from depending on whether you are a newbie to escape rooms or not. With multiple themes to choose from there will be a mystery everyone will want to solve. Some of the themes include Room 13, Jack The Ripper, and Time Machine which all have different mysteries to solve and enjoy.

One of our personal favourites is Dr Watson’s Office which is a classic room where you are based in a detective’s office and must solve many clues to find the suspect before they murder lead detective Dr Watson, you won’t want to forget your magnifying glass to solve the riddles. There is also a special Peaky Blinders theme with many fun and exciting related puzzles waiting for you to figure out.

Escape rooms are perfect if you’re looking for a date idea, something to do with friends, or a day out with work colleagues you will all get to work as part of a team and build bonds along the way. The games are great to develop team building skills, create memories, and evolve your problem solving skills.

Games start at just £25 per person and they also offer student and service discounts when you book online on their website. The venue is open from 9 am to 11 pm every day and you can book whichever time slot suits you best any day of the week. Escape Live also have a policy where on your 3rd visit you will receive 50% off your game which is great for those regular visitors. After your game you can make a stop at the venues 1920’s themed bar to debrief after all your hard work.

The venue is located in the Jewellery Quarter but if you can’t make it they also offer online escape rooms that you can solve from the comfort from your own home.

Escape Brum 

Highly rated Escape Brum is an independent escape room located in the Jewellery Quarter in the heart of Birmingham. During the games you will be able to test your puzzle solving abilities and test your logic to escape the room. Escape Brum provide prime fun yet challenging entertainment perfect for many occasions with your favourite people.  

Escape Brum has 3 games to choose from including Blackmail, The Mystics Cabin, and Labyrinth that have all been beautifully designed for your enjoyment. Labyrinth is their newest game where you will be challenged to balance the elements of fire, water, air, and earth and attempt to rescue the Minotaur while guiding yourself through the maze.  

Escape Brum explains that the difficulty level of their games depends on the size of the group playing and how much previous experience you have with escape rooms, but Blackmail is recommended for newbies and Mystics Cabin is ideal for the more experienced players. Every game lasts for 1 hour and is ideal for groups, families, and with work pals.  

All of the escape rooms have been designed to a high standard and made to look realistic. Every room will develop your skills by solving puzzles and finding clues hidden in the rooms. By collaborating and working hard as a team your goal is to escape before the timer runs out.   

The venue is open from 9:30 am until 9 pm everyday and time slots can be booked within this time on their website. Prices depend on the number of players but generally start at £20 per person. You can also purchase gift vouchers online if you are looking for a potential present for a friend you know loves puzzles and problem solving.

Escape Hunt

Escape Hunt is an unreal experience where you will complete ground breaking missions, complete challenges, and solve riddles to solve problems and escape the room. These adventures are perfect for all occasion and with any group of people for a little brain twisting fun. Escape Hunt offer 3 different experiences being their escape rooms, city hunts, and play at home packages.   

Their escape rooms have lots of themes such as Doctor Who, Blackbeard’s Treasure, and Alice In Puzzleland. Each room is designed with extreme attention to detail and just like most other venues the aim is to escape by working as part of a team within the given 60 minutes. One of the themes we love is Our Finest Hour, this room will transport you back to the 1920’s during the time of the war against the Nazi you will become part of MI6’s team to destroy them and win the war. Prices start at just £18.70 per person and when booking online there are student and over 60’s discounts.  

Next the city hunt is based on your classic treasure hunt game but with even more challenges and based around the city. With two themes to choose from being Return To Wonderland and Time Cops these games will get you out and about solving mind boggling clues. City Cops is based around saving the future where you will have to prevent artificial intelligence taking over the world. On arrival you will be given an iPad and a safety briefing then you will be taken to the outdoors where your case begins. You will be given 90 minutes to crack the case and prices start at just £15 per person.  

Finally, the play at home packages offers 5 star adventures that can be played at the comfort of your own home. There’s so many experiences to choose from such as their Murder At The Mansion, The School Of Magic, and Day Of The Dead. Another one includes The Treasure Of The Aztecs where a museum uncovers a treasure trove of ancient texts that you will need to unravel them to solve the case. These packs start at £14.99 and should take 1 hour to crack. You will require a printer, internet, and either a computer or a mobile phone to help play along.     

There are 2 locations in Birmingham being in Resorts World and City Center. The venue is open from 10 am to 10:30 pm every day and all sessions can be booked during this time on their website. The Resorts World location also offer virtual reality sessions so you can make a real day out of all sorts of fun activities.

Escape Now

At Escape Now you are promised to have a fun packed unique experience. You will have to work together as part of a team to solve clues and beat the clock in time to escape. Each room has been built with extreme close attention to detail to ensure you have maximum immersion when you enter.  

With 3 fantastic themes we’re sure you will want to visit more than once. From the classic Sherlock’s Secret game to the scary Haunted Hollow adventure there’s lots to discover all under one roof. The final theme they offer is The Getaway during this game you will have to escape from being held hostage by a car theft ring named Matrix Clan, will you reveal their secrets and Getaway in time? 

Each game lasts for 60 minutes and each one has different difficulty levels depending on how experienced you are at escape rooms. Prices start at £17 per hour and each game can have 2-6 players on a team.  

Bookings can be made online through the Escape Now website. The venue is open Monday to Thursday from 10 am to 8:30 pm and Friday to Sunday from 10 am until 10 pm. The rooms are great for lots of occasions including family day outs, something to do with work colleagues, or for a thrilling date night.
