Have you heard that Secret Cinema are here in Birmingham? Yep, that’s right Secret Cinema are currently at the NEC bringing you the Grease Experience. From the 26th July to the 13th August you can visit the Grease Experience right here in Birmingham.
The show will take you right back to the 50’s where you can walk round and discover Rydell High, meet your favourite characters, and relive this iconic film. Ticket prices start at just £39 per person and you can book your spot on the Secret Cinema website today.
Our Experience
When entering the grounds, we were taken back at how stunning and realistic they looked we couldn’t wait to discover them. Secret Cinema had recreated some of the sets from Grease such as the Autoshop, Rydell High Gym, and the Sports Field they were perfect to take photos with and explore.
Inside the Gym there was a band where all the guests joined in with the singing, dancing, and learning how to jive with some of the actors. At the Autoshop you can look round at all the mechanic equipment and even see the famous Grease Lightening car which is a must on your visit.
Before the movie starts you get to discover the whole grounds for a couple of hours to ensure you don’t miss anything. In these few hours you will see the actors running around interacting with guests and even getting you involved in some of their mischievous games. The actors will recreate some of the well known scenes from the movie right in front of your eyes such as the Summer Nights scene and Look At Me I’m Sandra Dee song.
The actors look exactly like the famous characters from the movie. From the accents, costumes, and looks they were just uncanny, it was amazing.
The Rides
We’re all familiar with the carnival scene from Grease well at this experience you get to not only watch it but live it. There’s lots of old school fairground rides for you to play on and experience all around the venue where you will have as much fun as they do in the movie. They have basketball, pie throwing, and a ferris wheel which is definitely a must when visiting Rydell High as you will get to see glorious views of the whole grounds and live in that Grease moment.
Refreshments
Just before the movie started we had to grab some refreshments to snack on while we watched. There were lots of different 50’s style food trucks scattered around the grounds selling all sorts of cuisines with some of the foods even featuring in the movie. Some of the foods available include hot dogs, pizza, gyros, loaded fries, and burgers. We decided to go for a margherita and some classic fries, the lines were not too long to wait in, and the food was served quickly and not to mention tasted delicious. There were some tables to sit at but we decided to sit on the sports filed to get the full Grease experience.
To wash down the pizza we had to get a few drinks to watch the rest of the movie with. There was lots of bars all around the sports field where you could grab a glass of wine, beer, and a good selection of soft drinks to keep hydrated through the night. There was also a dedicated coffee and shakes truck where you could get a good selection of hot drinks and milkshake flavors. We decided to go for a chocolate shake topped with whipped cream which went down a treat and cured our sweet tooth.
The Movie
After a couple of hours roaming around Rydell High it was time for the Grease movie to begin. Everyone took their seats on the sports field and found a good spot to watch the film. The screen was huge and there were lots of speakers so you could see and hear the movie no matter where you sat, meaning you won’t miss a moment of this beloved film.
During the film the Secret Cinema actors would recreate some of the most famous and loved scenes on the stage right below the screen. For example, the actors did a wonderful performance of the well-known song Grease Lightning where they danced on top of the car just like they do in the movie, it was just spectacular.
The atmosphere was electric, we have never found watching a movie to be so fun and entertaining, guests were dancing and singing along with the movie and the actors, truly having the greatest time. It felt as though we were immersed in the movie and a part of the cast, we were truly enjoying it just as much as they did.
