It’s easy to get stuck in the same loop of ideas when it comes to holidays, too often the same typical destinations are picked to getaway for a week. To try and break this cycle, check out our five picks for popular but not cliché holiday destinations!

Bari

A less typical optional, Bari is perfect for those wanting a marvellous Italian holiday, without the dismay of streets overflowing with fellow tourists. For a much more intimate and memorable holiday, Bari is a great pick if you don’t want to stick to the mainstream holiday destinations in Italy e.g. you want a camping holiday with a company like Canvas Holidays.

Located in the Southern region of Puglia, the heel of the ‘boot’ that is Italy, Bari is a beautiful Port City on the coast of the Adriatic sea. A wealth of winding streets to explore, it’s easy to get lost for hours in the labyrinth-esque alleys of the ‘Old Town’.

Of course, being a port town, there are a number of incredible beaches nearby, such as: Pane e Pomodoro Beach, Mola Di Bari Beach, Lido San Francesco, Lungomare Imperatore Augusto and many more! Moreover, for those seeking an elevated maritime experience, the opportunity to explore these coastal gems aboard prestigious vessels like Ferretti yachts is an added allure, promising a luxurious and unforgettable journey along the shoreline!

Zurich

A city of fine art and culture, Zurich is everything you could want in a classy getaway. Filled to the brim with museums and great food, all set to the backdrop of the gorgeous River Limmat that runs through the southern part of the city.

Whilst on the surface Zurich seems a tad slow and not for those who enjoy a faster slice of life, its prime location lends itself to a smorgasbord of unique activities. There’s  Boat cruises and river tours and the gorgeous  Mount Uetliberg, the city’s very own mountain.

Uetliberg has trails for hiking and mountain biking, and even sledging. Best of all, those unwilling to be dragged into high octane thrills can kick back at the observation tower at its summit, for truly glorious views over the whole of Zurich

Capri

An island in the bay of Naples, Capri is famous for its designer fashions and incredible luxurious hotels. It’s not just a high class retreat however, with a scenic, rugged landscape it has much to offer besides the lifestyles of the rich and famous.

Shrouded in myth and mystique, Capri is so famous for its otherworldly waters, so blue and clear that there’s no need to bother with a snorkel to see marine life. Or why not check out the stunning Blue Grotto, where underwater caves result in the water shining a brilliant electric blue.

Berlin

A favourite of David Bowie who recorded 3 albums here, including Heroes, Berlin is a city steeped in huge amounts of culture. An endless supply of historical sights to see, with plenty of trendy spots to check out; Berlin is the perfect destination for a family or couple torn between wanting history and happening bars.

It’s a haven for foodies too, with a chance to try authentic Bratwurst and other German sausage based delicacies. A food so iconic it’s found in most towns and cities at Christmas in England.

What’s more is it’s the perfect trip for those who come alive at night. Famed as a city that never seems to sleep, bars, clubs and underground raves are ubiquitous. There’s always a good time around the corner.

Geneva

Whilst to some Geneva is  written off as a place of diplomacy, banking and international politics, the second largest City in Switzerland has so much more to its name. Basking at the foot of the stunning Mont Blanc, it rivals any other destination on this list for a gorgeous scenic backdrop.

Furthermore, with a rich French influence found throughout the city, the exquisite food is reason enough to visit. Located in Romandy, it’s French speaking, drawing parallels to Paris on a good day.
