Best Student Activities in Birmingham

Birmingham is the proud home to five universities, including of course the University of Birmingham which boasts a plethora of notable alumni including actor Matthew Goode. Whether you’re away from home for the first time or you’re returning to this glorious city, you’ll probably be looking for fun (and cheap) things to do when you’re not studying.

Here are some of the best fun things to do as a student in Birmingham.

As a student, you’ll likely want to hit up some of the city’s bars and clubs for a wild night out or two. You’re in luck because there are plenty to choose from in Birmingham. For a night filled with music, dancing and cheap prices, visit PRYZM; with four floors and the best DJs available, this city-centre club is hugely popular with students in Birmingham.

Don’t worry if you’re not into mad nights out, or if you’re in your final year and need more of a quiet setting; the city has plenty of laid-back options on offer, too. For example, Ghetto Golf is a great way to get to know your flatmates and still get an early(ish) night. It’s essentially mini-golf with a creative twist and each hole features neon lights, fun music and cool furniture – there’s even a bar and food service if you get tired.

If you want something in between, an event like Bada Bingo Birmingham is perfect for students. The popular events night has finally come to the city, however, if there are no upcoming local events or you fancy exploring the event beyond the city, there are plenty of Bada Bingo nights in neighbouring cities. This way you can still enjoy the traditional number-calling game with music, dancing, and jaw-dropping prizes, but you can also venture out on an adventure somewhere new.

However, it’s not just nightlife that Birmingham has to offer for its students; in fact, there are plenty of fun things to do in between classes or on your day off! Cadbury World is a popular tourist destination but plenty of students visit too, thanks in part to the generous student discount on tickets. During your time here you can shop in the largest Cadbury shop in the world, pretend to shop in a historical remake of the street where John Cadbury ran his first shop, and even play some thrilling interactive games.

Our final idea for students is a trip to Electric Cinema – but don’t worry, this is far from your average theatre experience. It’s one of England’s oldest cinemas and that’s reflected in the lovely vintage interior, as well as the comfortable plush seats. Not only this, but during the film, you can have confectionary and drinks delivered right to your seat. In addition, make sure to keep an eye out for their special events like late-night screenings or Q&A sessions.

All in all, there are a huge number of things to do in Birmingham as a student, whether you like it mad or reserved, loud or quiet. It’s just a matter of knowing where to look!
