The winter period is finally here, and for many, it is the best time of the whole year to be in Birmingham. The winter months mean the countdown to Christmas is truly underway, and there are few cites in the United Kingdom that are better around this kind of time of the year than Birmingham. But, what should visitors get up to when in Brum between now and Christmas to feel extra festive?

German Market

It would be difficult to start anywhere else for those looking for some Christmas cheer. The German Market is finally back in the city after missing out last year due to COVID-19 regulations. However, it’s better than ever in 2021, with more stalls and extra time for locals to pay a visit to the market. The market officially opened its doors for the first time on November 4th, and it will stay on the streets of Corporation Street and beyond until December 23rd.

There is something for everyone at the market, including German steins, handmade statues and more food options than you can imagine. A stop at the German Market is the perfect way to get in the festive mood once again in Birmingham.

Christmas In Cathedral Square

The German Market is by no means the only market that visitors can experience in Birmingham this year. For the first time, Christmas in Cathedral Square will be available to visitors at Colmore Row. It is delivered by Colmore BID and will be designed to shine the light on some of the best local businesses in the second city.

Customers will be able to try some of the best food and drink offerings in the city between November 17th and December 19th, and it is the perfect place to start your Christmas shopping before heading into the Bull Ring. Some of the businesses that can be found here, include Java Roastery, Purecraft Bar & Kitchen and Mumbai Grill.

Love Actually With Wine

There is little denying that one of the greatest Christmas films ever made is Love Actually. But, what could be better than an exclusive screening of the film at Millennium Point? Well, wine is a great start. The event is set to take place on December 5th, and will run between 4 pm and 7:30 pm.

The film will be paused at a number of points, as experts offer insider bits of information for film goers, while themed wine will also be served during these breaks. For any fans of this legendary Christmas film, it is the perfect night out in the city to start feeling festive.

Take In A Show

The perfect family night out can be found at the Birmingham Hippodrome in December, with a number of excellent shows running to get into the festive mood. For many, this is the time of the year to take in a pantomime, with Dear Santa and Goldilocks and the Three Bears both running throughout December. The Nutcracker is also on from November 20th to December 11th. Heading to the Hippodrome is the perfect family night out around the Christmas period.
