The Easter holidays may have ended but the 6 week summer holidays are fast approaching. This guide will show you the best places for a family day out in Birmingham. Guaranteed to be packed with fun, laughter, and excitement these activities will get you out the house and keep the family occupied this summer.

Think Tank Science Museum

Combining education and fun Think Tank Science Museum, allows kids to play while learning valuable lessons. This interactive and immersive experience will delve into space, mechanics, and Birmingham’s industrial past.

With 3 main zones to visit the fun is never ending. Starting with Mini Brum, this is a child sized version of Birmingham. Featuring some key landmarks such as the canals and Bullrings Selfridges Kids, will be able to play in these fun sized monuments while discovering exciting facts. Additionally, there’s a construction, café, and doctors zone where children get pretend play as their desired profession.

Next the Planetarium. This zone will transport you out of Birmingham and into space. You’ll be able to explore astronomy and travel through our solar system, seeing constellations and the beautiful night sky. For a small additionally fee this attraction is not to be misses.

Finally the outdoor science garden. The large outdoor space allows children to discover engineering, mechanics, and transportation. With a focus on renewable energy, good mobilisation, and a life sized hamster wheel this zone will certainly bring some entertainment to your day.

The museum is in city centre near Birmingham City University and is open all week during school holidays from 10 am until 5 pm. Childrens admission is £8.25 with under 3’s going free. Timeslots are available to book online to secure a space but walk ins are also accepted.

Grand Escape

If you’re looking for some family bonding time and to bring the family literally closer together an escape room could be the way. Grand escape offers multiple fascinating escape games you can pick from and complete with your team. 

By completing puzzles, cracking codes, and following clues you mission is to escape the room before your time is up. This activity is great for quality time, skill development, and testing communication which can all be important for family dynamics. The escape room is most definitely fun for all ages and challenging for everyone so working together is detrimental. 

From £24 you’ll receive one hour in the escape room of your choice. The games are suitable for children 10+ but must be accompanied by an adult and it’s recommended that there’s at least 2-6 players. In the centre of broad street its located close to city centre just a small stretch from grand central for those travelling. Currently Grand Escape are running 5 different rooms including Alice In Wonderland, the magic spell, and lost in Mayan temple so, pick wisely if you want to escape!

Legoland Discovery Centre

With lots of fun activities Legoland is the place to be this summer holiday. The centre is filled with lots of entertaining activities from building to racing you won’t get bored.  

During your visit it’s a must that you visit the Miniland. This has been created using over 1 million bricks and lets you see the city on a much smaller scale. The city also includes the worlds smallest Primark that replicates the one in city centre just much more compact. Also, not to be forgotten is the 4D cinema. Lasting around 30 minutes you’ll be able to see clips from the Lego Movie and Lego Ninjago. Experiencing wind and rain you’re going to be fully immersed in the film with all your most loved lego characters.  

Their play session start from £18.50 and include the 4D cinema, soft play, and having fun at the building stations. Additionally, there is an opportunity to experience their VR Lego race. This will entail racing with 360° vision over mountains and lava to become the next best driver. After, there’s a chance to bring your car skills into the real world by building your own vehicle and racing on their Lego tracks.  At the end of your visit the fun isn’t over with an onsite coffee shop and Lego store, you can refuel and pick out a souvenir to remember the day with.

Cadbury World

Known for its chocolate confections Cadbury World is great fun for the whole family. From learning about their chocolate history to tasting their yummy creations it doesn’t get much better than this.  

There are so many different things to see and do and here are just a few of their best. Through interactive workstations you’ll be able to learn how the famous Cadbury chocolate is made. From Crème Eggs to Roses you will get to know the secrets behind their creations. Not only that you can watch the chocolate being made, learn about the ingredients, and even have a taste.  

You can also take a trip down memory lane looking at old Cadbury adverts and see the Gill Cocks Collection. The collection includes over 2000 Cadbury memorabilia items over dating back to 1800’s including mugs and biscuit tins. After this you can take a walk down their recreation of Victorian Bull Street. During your stroll you will meet John Cadbury founder of Cadbury and uncover the secrets behind the business and how it began. 

The ticket price will also include their 4D cinema and their famous Cadabra ride. This will take you into chocolate heaven while meeting popular characters like Fredo! 

Standard tickets start at £18.95 and includes most of their chocolatey attractions. During the summer holidays they are open from 9 am until 4:30 pm giving you the entire day to see it all.

Sea Life

Home to all kinds of sea creatures this is a fun yet educational adventure. Clown fish, turtles, sharks, penguins, and jellyfishes are just a handful of animals you will get to see at the centre. It is also home to 2 very adorable sea otters. This is a UK’s first and they have travelled all the way from Alaska.  

Admission is £19 when booking online and will ensure you get the best deal. Also at the centre is a 4D cinema for just £3.50 you will get to experience swimming with all your favourite animals. With rain and bubbles, you will get the full immersive underwater experience.
