Qavali Review

Qavali is an Indo-Persian cuisine that takes you on a spiritual journey of enlightenment. The restaurant aims to create a unique experience unlike any other. They express that their food travels the same journey as qawwali music and is provided to relieve hungry appetites and give back much needed spiritual awakening.

On entry staff are welcoming, helpful, and provide astonishing service. We were welcomed and seated quickly then given menus to browse. Our drinks order was taken swiftly and did not take long to prepare. When taking our food order waitresses were delighted to show us what they would recommend and what their menu favourites were. They gave us veggie options and talked us through the allergies, helping us with any queries we had during the visit. The food arrived quickly, and we were checked upon throughout.

The restaurants interior was absolutely stunning. The walls were filled with beautiful and eye-catching art pieces that tell amazing stories. Inside Qavali has emerald green furnishing with gold accents throughout which truly transport you out of Birmingham and creates the perfect immersive dining experience. Qavali is a picturesque location with greenery and flowers filling the space, every corner of the room will have your breath taken away.

Qavalis extensive drink menu will have you taken back with their taste and looks. Their cocktail menu shows amazing imagery, description, and story behind every one of their drinks.

We went for the Princess Orange and King of Fruits, having the image and description on the menu meant we knew exactly what we were getting and helped us decide what we think we’d like the most. The Princess Orange was inspired by the legend of Naranj Toranj where a prince falls in love with a girl, the cocktail was punchy and filled with grapefruit and orange. The King of fruits was based on Mirza Ghalib who was a poet that helped people look for gratitude in the smaller things, this drink tasted amazing packed with mango and mandarin for a fruity flavour. Both cocktails were beautifully presented and tasted divine, the Kind of Fruits is a must try on your visit.

The main menu had a good selection of curries and grill options to choose from which are all artistically and spiritually inspired. Qavali were great at accommodating our allergies and dietary requirements. The staff were more than happy to give us recommendations and talk us through the menu.

We ordered the Mazzeh Platter which was entirely vegetarian and consisted of some of Qavalis greatest picks. The platter had buttered naan, hummus, sikandari falafel, and mast-o musir perfect to try lots of different things they offer all on one plate. Alongside that there was an Indo-Persian Koobideh which was marinated lamb served with a side of naan. This was suggested to us and was delicious! Their naan was some of the best we had tasted especially with their yogurt dip. The food looked and tasted exquisite; these dishes are definitely not to be missed out on.

Overall Qavali is a must visit in Birmingham and will give you the experience of a lifetime. With mouth-watering food and beautiful cocktails all in their phenomenal venue this dining experience will not let you down.
